We aim to do good and be a responsible, good employer. We support the well-being of our employees in a variety of ways. Student well-being is at the heart of everything we do, and a large part of our operational result is directed towards it. We work for a better tomorrow for our students and employees because we care about them.

A social enterprise

  • Uniresta has been awarded the Social Enterprise label as an operator whose aim is to do good in society.
  • A large part of our profit goes to supporting the well-being of students in Oulu.
  • We have long cooperated with Lapsellista ry and supported local (junior) sports.

Student-owned

  • Uniresta is owned by the students of Oulu (OYY).
    Our mission is to provide well-being to the students of Oulu in a responsible way.

Responsible employer

  • We offer comprehensive occupational health care services and a wide range of benefits, including Smartum, a work shoe benefit and GoByBike company bikes.
  • We offer breakfast every day for our employees.
  • We offer opportunities for training and career advancement.
  • We reward our staff, for example for suggestions for improvement and customer feedback.
  • We offer work and learning opportunities for students and employees with special needs and employment conditions.

Financial responsibility

We aim to put the welfare of our owners, the students, first and foremost. When we manage our finances well, our students are better supported. We also want to be a responsible partner, a transparent and reliable operator, and certified for high quality. In this way, we are a responsible player, while also building a financially good tomorrow.

  • Our mission is to provide well-being for the students of Oulu, our owners. A large part of the profit goes to support the well-being of students in Oulu.

A local Oulu company 

  • Uniresta pays its taxes to Finland.
  • The profitability and competitiveness of the company are actively taken care of so that our company will remain viable for the next 60 years as well.
  • We favour local actors and partnerships in our procurement.

A responsible operator 

  • Uniresta has been awarded the Strongest in Finland certificate for its financial responsibility.
  • We want to build long-term partnerships.
  • Our operations are transparent and reliable.
  • Uniresta’s restaurant quality system has been awarded the ISO 9001:2015 certificate.
  • We comply with all laws and regulations in our operations and pay at least the industry TES (collective labour agreement) wage to all our employees.

Certified environmentally responsible

  • We are part of the Ekokompassi environmental programme, which means we meet the ten criteria of the programme.
  • We ensure that our operations comply with current legislation, including environmental legislation.
  • Our environmental pledge: To leave a good tomorrow.
  • Our environmental programme aims to reduce emissions from our activities.
  • We aim to reduce the carbon footprint of our operations, for example by increasing the proportion of vegetarian food.
  • We have also introduced carbon footprint counters on our menus.

Supplier of seasonal, local and organic food

  • We use seasonal, organic, sustainable and locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.
  • Our restaurants are part of the Portaat Luomuun (Steps to Organic) programme and our H2O restaurants, among others, are rated at the highest three-star level. More than a hundred different organic products are on offer.
  • We serve local ingredients every day.
  • The coffee we use is Fairtrade carbon-neutral organic coffee.
  • Uniresta’s Juhula Catering menus have been awarded the Arctic Food Lab trademark for their contribution to local food and culture.

Reducing waste

  • The restaurants serve a packed lunch at the end of the lunch hour.
  • The ResQ service also helps to reduce waste.
  • We are constantly developing ways to minimise waste, including sourcing, menu planning and recipes.

Sustainably domestic

  • Almost all the detergents we use in our restaurants are The Nordic Swan Ecolabel labelled products.
  • The meat used on our menus is over 90% domestic.
  • For fish products, we favour domestic wild and farmed fish. Otherwise, we ensure that the fish we use is ASC or MSC-certified.

Uniresta’s lunch restaurants offer delicious lunches and fresh salad portions every weekday. By clicking on the name of the restaurant, you can get to know the changing restaurant-specific menu.

Sometimes we have to make changes to the food we announced in advance, which we can no longer update to the menu service. Please check the food ingredient and allergen information in the restaurant from the menus or from the staff.
